With a scholarship of the American Field Service Milou Ket spent one year in the USA before returning to The Netherlands. She graduated from the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, and was employed by the styling department of Hema BV in Amsterdam. Hema is a very succesful chain of department stores in the Netherlands with more than 240 outlets. She worked for the womens, yarn and childrens department, designing and advising the buyers on future collections. She travelled extensively, within and also outside Europe in this position.
In 1980 Milou Ket started her own styling and design company. In this time she has been working for many different branches, putting together fabric and print collections, product developments for yarn manufacturers, accessories, sportswear and consultancy work for various retail and buying groups
She was a board member of KIO, the Association of Dutch Industrial Designers. She took, together with Cecile Kanteman, the initiative for the HEMA Design Prize.
She worked free-lance for the Dutch Fashion Institute for a few years. In 1986 she began publishing stylng books, with the purpose of also reaching clients outside of Holland. She started with a Childrenswear book, wich was soon followed by a Women styling guide. These books are sold by a network of agents in more than 20 countries woldwide.
In 1992 Milou Ket decided to publish an Interior Trend book. It became an immediate success and has been sold globally; included in international fairs such as Heimtex, Surtex, Evteks, Decosit and Biennale. She has a broad variety of clients: Hunter Douglas, Volvo Cars, Ikea, Esprit Home Products, The House of Fraser, Swarovski, Rosenthal Studio, Royal Doulton, WMF in Germany, Design Istitutes in Japan, Honda Motors, Zanussi/Electrolux in Sweden, Walt Disney consumer products, various textile companies and architecture bureau's. In addition, she also advised the International Fair of Brussels on the trends for Interior Decoration Products.
Milou Ket also produces "InnovationLab", a special issue of the Milou Ket Trend Service. It is an inspiring vision for the future, directed towards development of future products; showing materials, structures, designs, form and their potential application. She is the design and lifestyle consultant for many international companies; including the Business Unit Architecture of Swarovski, for lighting, furniture, bathrooms and architectural solutions with crystal. She also works for Zorlu in Turkey and Brico DIY in Belgium. She advises the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam on their museum shop and assortment.
She gives guest lectures at several Textile and Art Institutes in Holland and Denmark. She publishes regularly in numerous national and international magazines such as INTERIORS, Textil Wirtshaft and View on Textiles. She has lectured at the Stockholm Furniture Fair and the London Preview and Elite show. Milou Ket is an advisory member of the Trend Board of Decosit in Belgium and gives seminars at Heimtex in Frankfurt. She lectured together with Karim Rashid at PEJ Gruppen's Trend Event in Denmark and Norway. In May 2005 she presented the trends and gave seminars for Surtex and the Contemporary Furniture Fair in New York. She lectured in 2005 for the International Colour Marketing Group in New York as well. In 2007 Milou Ket spoke at the Australian International Furniture Fair in Sydney and presented the Interior trends at Evteks in Istanbul. In September 2007 she lectured about innovation at the Technical University of Delft during the "Wizz Materialz" symposium. Since february 2008 she spoke at the "Munich Fabric Start" on womens fashion, she lectured for ESA in Milan, at the Surtex in New York, at Evteks in Instanbul, at Tendence in Frankfurt and at the Furniture and Design Fair in Melbourne. She contributes to Furniture & Furnishings in Singapore and to Dutch Trade Magazine for Colour and Style. Since 2010 Milou Ket is trend advisor to the Ihlas Magazine Group in Istanbul for Home Textile Export and Contract Textiles International. Milou Ket gave a lecture on Asian Luxury Hospitality Projects in Singapore. After that she spoke twice about luxury materials at the Index fair in Dubai. After that she made Mood Boards for 5 private jets for Fokker in the Netherlands for a Chinese customer. In 2015 she made a trend presentation for the Association of 150 Turkish weavers (Uludag) and designed an exciting booth at Heimtex under the name "Facets of Splendour", with the support of Marc Geyssen. Since 2015 she makes a yearly trend presentation for Rasch Wallcoverings in Germany. She assisted China Home on product development, colours and presentation with their proposal for Restoration Hardware in the U.S. for bedding. She made a styling report for Vino Kadiffe in Bursa, Turkey and advised the Poortere Freres in Belgium on colours.
